I really enjoy redesigning intranets: it's more about making the information easier to find and use and less about making it "pretty pages" within the confines of a committee or a particular client's tastes. It tends to be my first major project in most new jobs.
This site uses a software package called IntranetAPP by ASPAPP to do all the behind-the-scenes management of information. Users can add news, files, images, forms, etc without my intervention. It includes some basic project management tools and forums all in one simple package. We added tools like the staff directory and weather, to make it a sort of simple information dashboard.
